My back to school story begins during my senior year of high school. I went to Saint Charles East High in Saint Charles, Illinois (Chicago Illinois Map Charm #4160). I was having a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to do with my life and what was the right path to become the successful person I wanted to be. I wanted to have a lot of friends and be the “cool” kid like you would see in all the movies. In order to do that, I needed to become a social butterfly. By joining the marching band and choir (Small Music Staff Charm #0925) I was able to really put myself out there! Without being in marching band I would have never met my best friend Jeneva. I do not know where I would be without her. We got along so well because we both were obsessed with computer games (Laptop Computer Charm #2600) and make up (Lipstick Accent Charm #3178). She said I always made her laugh, especially because I did this weird thing where I would draw whales (Humpback Whale Charm #3400) on all of my homework assignments. You can ask anyone of my classmates and they will always remember whale girl. They even gave my whale drawing a name; Jeffery. Jeneva and I were also both into the same classes. We were almost, what many considered to be, “nerdy”. She was into all her science classes while I was really into my math courses (Calculator Charm #3922). Math has always been my favorite subject. I don’t think there was ever a year where I had a bad math teacher. With that being said, I really considered going into a career involving mathematics.

During my senior year, I was able to help out a lot in the math department with tutoring other students. This is where my passion grew for the subject. My teacher noticed how well I was doing and sat me down to chat about my future. She talked about being a female in the math industry and how judgments can be made, but I was perfect for the challenge. She encouraged me to use my talents and become a math teacher! I never really thought of myself being a math teacher, but I really liked having someone seeing potential in me. I decided to look into my options and take the steps towards a college career in mathematics in order to become the math teacher my teacher knew I could be. I would consider her to be the opener to the door for my success (Key to Success Charm #1162). Fall and winter came around (Pine Cone Charm #5113) and I was continuing to study hard and keep my grades up. During my free time, I made sure to hang with my friends and give lots of attention to my dog Jack (Small Labrador retriever Dog Charm #2404). As the years went on and graduation time came around(Graduation Cap with Pearl Charm #1149) I stuck with the career choice of becoming a math teacher and I am now student teaching! I feel like I would not be where I am today without going through my senior year the way I did. I never want to lose the connections I made and I could not be happier to be in the position I am in. I want to be the teacher that inspires students so that I can hear more success stories like mine. I will always miss my high school years, but it is nice to not have to be the one taking the tests for a change!
